Head for the hills! Or rather, head for the Frida box office as Los Angeles Arts Society presents Godzilla, stomping into town on Saturday, December 15th!

Released in 1954, Ishiro Honda’s Godzilla spawned a prolific franchise that continues to this day and inspired generations of fans and filmmakers alike. Now’s your chance to see the Japanese classic on the big screen in stunning black and white!

But that’s not all! After the movie, stick around for a Q&A with two very special guests! World-renowned Godzilla experts Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski will be joining us for a conversation about the film and their recent book Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, from Godzilla to Kurosawa, copies of which will be available for purchase and signing in the lobby.

Doors open at 7pm and the movie starts at 7:30pm, but be sure to arrive early as the first 15 guests will receive a FREE Godzilla-themed prize!  We’ll also have a raffle opportunity for a chance to win awesome surprise goodies, so you’ll definitely want the time to get some before the movie starts!

Discounted presale tickets are available for $12 at The Frida Box Office and thefridacinema.org.  $15 day of event.

We thank Mr. Ryfle and Mr. Godziszewski for joining us, and hope you’ll join us too for a night of monster mayhem and sci-fi excitement!

Praise for Godzilla:

“Godzilla has never looked as good as in Honda's original conception, and few sci-fi creatures have equaled the size or impact of its first footsteps.” - Janice Page, Boston Globe

“Its images of the destruction of the cities is far more powerful than in American films, where the cities are trashed for the pure pleasure of destruction, without any real sense of human loss.” - Stephen Hunter, Washington Post

“The sheer fervency of this film takes it beyond the crash-bang entertainment of most blockbusters, ancient and modern.” - Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Praise for Ishiro Honda: A Life in Film, From Godzilla to Kurosawa:

“Over the last twenty-some years, Steve Ryfle and Ed Godziszewski have consistently proven themselves to be the foremost English-speaking film historians to cover kaiju eiga… after many years of research, the two have released what could be their finest achievement: the first comprehensive biography on the life and career of the late Japanese film director Ishiro Honda.” - Patrick Galvan, Toho Kingdom

“The authors are obviously fans but their biography is not a fan rave… Instead the book is a wider, deeper and more valuable examination of not only one man’s career, but also the life that produced it and the system that nurtured it — and almost destroyed it.” - Mark Schilling, The Japan Times

“Anyone interested in the historical and socio-political contexts of Japanese science fiction and giant monster movies, needs to read this well-researched and crisply written revelatory biography of Ishiro Honda.” - Richard Pusateri, SciFi Japan
